Downtown Restaurant

Tuesday, July 18th, 2006

My sister and her hubby were checking out Holiday Inn Kuwait Downtown located in Dasman so they decided to give Downtown restaurant a shot. They said that before they took their orders the waiter informed them that at this moment the temperature outside is 47 degrees, so they get a 47 % discount on their food. The more it’s hot outside the more discount you get. It’s a silly idea that works very nicely here in Kuwait!

Update: Rami sent me this and I thought it was all year round.

Hungry for Tumbleweed

Sunday, July 16th, 2006

I went back to Tumbleweed with Rena and Rami. I never thought I would go there again especially after my first unfortunate experience. Now that I did, I don’t think I gave them a fair review. I ordered a light veggie burrito this time but I wasn’t that hungry because I had my lunch at home. Rena and Rami had the same dish, they ordered beef crispy taco. We were served one portion of cheesesticks and some free nachos for starters.

When my food arrived, I saw a huge sandwich and I thought to myself that there was no way I can eat this all on my own. I was so surprised that I ate half of it. It was so good, very deliskious. It tasted more like onion rings and I love onion rings! I’m sure if I hadn’t eaten anything at home I would’ve finished the whole plate, yum yum. I think Rena and Rami enjoyed their meals too. But there was this thing that bothered me the most, I think I mentioned it before in my earlier post about the waiter being there, only this time while we were studying our menus the waiteress would remain standing there next to our table. I found that quite strange …

Other than that I’m so going there again.

Tumbleweed

Tuesday, July 4th, 2006

On Saturday we went to Tumbleweed a Tex-Mex restaurant. I felt a little uncomfortable even if all the birdheads, deer heads, horsehead mounts and other poor looking animals hanging on the walls were not real. I couldn’t help feeling uneasy. I was also shocked to see that they’ve used antlers as chandeliers. I hope they were only wooden ones too because they looked very nice and fancy.

The waiter who served us was extra friendly that I thought he was so nosy because he wouldn’t let us be. We should’ve invited him over. So anyways everything was fine until my food arrived. I was very disappointed with my food because it was so salty I couldn’t eat even half way through it. Then I lost my appetite. I told my husband not to say anything about it because I wasn’t feeling hungry anymore but he wasn’t going to let it go.

When he told the waiter, he said he was very sorry about it and quickly took my food away. Then he told his manager about it. So the waiter comes back and tells me that I must have something else instead, I thanked him and told him that I wasn’t feeling hungry. Minutes later, the cook comes by our table and apologizes about it. Maybe they thought I was upset or something but I swear that I wasn’t feeling hungry, lol.

Once more the waiter comes back and insists that we have dessert, lol. After all that we eventually said yes though we don’t usually eat sweets. In a few minutes we were served a complementary choco brownie with vanilla ice-cream on top. It was very tasty. When it was time to pay we noticed that they didn’t charge for my meal.

Other than the food and the uncomfortable feeling I had when I first saw the deerheads on the wall, I really thought the place was pretty cool and I’m so glad they had a non-smoking area. I don’t think their business is doing very well but their service is so great, esp. the management.

Non-Smoking Area

Monday, May 22nd, 2006

After Memoo’s honour ceremony last month we all went to Gaucho Grill for the very first time to celebrate. I felt like leaving the restaurant the minute the waiter told us with pride that there was no non-smoking area. It left me puzzled.

It was the first restaurant to leave a bad impression on all of us, it’s as though their message was so loud and clear that non-smokers are not welcomed in here. I thought other countries are banning smoking in public places while this restaurant states with clear pride that it doesn’t even have a non-smoking area.

Anyways, we found an empty space upstairs so we changed our mind immediately esp. after checking out their menu. I have to say they’ve got the best steak I’ve ever had, unfortunately, I couldn’t enjoy my meal very much when some lady on the table next to us started smoking one cigarette after the other.

I have to add that Le Relais de l’Entrecote is another steak restaurant I went to a few weeks before which had no non-smoking area, in spite of their very tasty food. I say such restaurants should put up a sign that bluntly reads ’only smokers are allowed in here!” In this way people like me won’t think about eating there in the first place and as well to avoid any embarrassment this may cause.

Out of all the cafes I’ve been to I believe that Starbucks is the only one that maintained an excellent atmosphere for non-smokers, especially the one at ThePalms Hotel. I was even more surprised to know the other day on my anniversary that Le Notre cafe (Gulf Rd) haven’t got a non-smoking area. As it seems non of these places care much about what we inhale in but actually care much more about their business income.

LoFat Food

Thursday, May 18th, 2006

I felt like LoFat food yesterday so I went ahead and placed my first order. I waited only 30 minutes or so until my food arrived. Like everyone had said I got my food fresh and warm. The only thing was that there was a mix up with my order so instead of getting the Chicken Grilled sandwich I got the Rocca salad with grilled chicken and as a result the restaurant decided to give it away as a complementary appetizer. Nice move! I had french fries as well as brownies, yummie!

In spite of the mix up with my food order I must say everything I had was super tasty even though I couldn’t chew very well and that’s due to my swollen gums! Oh and another thing I’d like to point out is I expected to get a bigger brownie for the price I had paid for. But nevertheless I think LoFat is way cheaper and much tastier comparing to Diet Center. And having the food delivered to home is a thumbs up too, though I was really hoping to find a nutritional fact sheet.

This yummie brownie costs 500 fils, I’d suggest 150 fils!

Yesterday

Wednesday, April 26th, 2006

Yesterday I went to check out the sale at Next, Mothercare and Debenhams. They’re celebrating 1000 stores in the Middle East. Other than how crowded and disorganized the shops were there’s nothing worth mentioning.

But I did buy some pj’s for my baby from Next and two swimsuits from Mothercare (1 kd each). I couldn’t believe it when I saw the quilt covers we bought earlier this year for half the price at Debenhams, bedding section.

After that I met up with a friend of mine at La Piazza to eat lunch there, I just love going to that place maybe because it’s so peaceful and the food is so yummie. The Greek salad was so so so tasty.

Double Stuffed Crust Pizza

Tuesday, December 20th, 2005

I love everything about pizza! So last night we decided to try Pizza Hut’s Double Stuffed Crust, and it wasn’t bad at all! We had two different toppings; Cheese’s Lovers, and olives ‘n’ cheese, yummie …!

P.S. Couldn’t find a better a picture!
