At Nando’s

Saturday, November 10th, 2007

Ate at nando’s today opss I meant yesterday. First time I had nando’s I was in Dubai. Food here is way better than Dubai. It was so tasty I left no crumbs! I had lemon and herb chicken sandwich. It’s the same order I always have when I eat there. We ordered the meditteranean and portuguese salads. Let me point out something here both are the same only difference one had feta cheese on top while the other didn’t but the dressing was not bad at all. I had chicken and mushroom soup for starters, I have to say it was the best I’ve ever had, really yummy just right. Prices were quite reasonable too. One thing I disliked about the whole place was how stuffy it was.

That’s their take-out menu

I couldn’t decide where I wanted to go to eat so I left that part for Chika and she thought we should go to La Marina Cafe in Souq Sharq. I do remember going there once before but I don’t remember what I had.

At 5pm, I met up with Chika and her co-worker Blue Dress, both of them work with my husband at the company. I had my co-worker Dodo with me and her little sister Amani came along with us to entertain Hassan lol.

All of us were starving so we agreed that we should eat first and then shop. I felt so lost when I looked at the menu because everything looked so damn good, then both Chika and Blue suggested I order Hamour fish in potato bag, I believe that’s what it was called. It was quite tasty, yum yum *licks lips!*

I have never seen Hassan so much hyper. He was so shy and quiet at first. When the ice was broken things got quite crazy. He got so attached to Chika that he didn’t want to let go of her even after waving our goodbyes. He seemed to enjoy their company more than me. I really had to literally drag him out of there. He was being extra naughty, screaming and rolling on the floors. I couldn’t believe it when he hit a guy and his son as they were walking with their family. I could see his wife roll her eyes and give us dirty looks. The guy just smiled back but I felt so embarrassed. This was out of my hands!

Before leaving we did a little shopping, catching up with a bit of gossiping and then we had to leave. I really felt relieved when he dozed away in his seat as I drove back home. It was fun but tiring for all of us especially when you’ve got a very active baby running all around the mall. Yesterday got me thinking of putting my baby in a nursery school, just to get him disciplined. I don’t think I’m doing a good job lol.

Where to go with Chika

Monday, March 19th, 2007

I’m planning to go out with Chika this week but I still haven’t decided where we should go to eat and she has given me the choice, I always have a hard time choosing food, so after some thought my options are as follows:

1. Choco Bar. They have a tasty chicken sandwich, great pasta and very nice food presentation. I’m in favour of it.
2. Pizza Express. I like their food but I hate their slow service and they don’t have an excuse because it’s hardly busy.
3. Nino. I love their food menu, love their place but I hate the fact it’s busy on weekends.
4. Greens. I love chinese food but I’ve never been to this place so I won’t know how good their food is, until I try it, otherwise it’s a bad idea.
5. Tumbleweed. I’m not a big fan of mexican food but their food is not bad.
6. I love Labanese food better but I don’t know if we should go to Awtar, since both of us are big fans of their food.

That’s about it, I guess, it could’ve been longer.

Kabab-ji

I can’t get over Kabab-Ji’s kabab sandwich.

Awtar

Monday, November 27th, 2006

I’ve always wanted to try Awtar’s food because my uncle recommended I try their breakfast but I’m not a morning person so instead I insisted on trying their food for dinner. I ordered grilled chicken and Rami had the mixed grills. We had lentil soup, Fatoosh, Taboulah and ‘Humous Beiruti’ for starters but I didn’t like the fact that they came in small portions. Nevertheless, it was so tasty. The food arrived on time and fresh from the oven.

I wish there were other restaurants out there with such excellent delivery service. I wish I had taken a picture to prove it.

Not only that Chika thinks it’s cool too.

Fatayer

Saturday, November 25th, 2006

Yesterday for dinner Rami got us yummie Fatayer from Batriq. I kept thinking of their logo and all the trouble they got into with McDonald’s or was that a rumour? Nonetheless, I kept thinking to myself why shop owners here in Kuwait name their restaurants, stores, hair salons after movie titles and characters?

Why can’t they just make one up? It’s more creative than copying something other people have already done. I remember when the movie Titanic got released I saw many shops a few months later were named after that movie. Never would I be able to appreciate movie titles on shops …

Greater Glasgow

Saturday, August 19th, 2006

Yesterday night we came back from Glasgow. Their weather reminds me of London so much. It’s very sunny and way warmer than Aberdeen. The first day we got to Glasgow it was very late so we stayed at the hotel unpacking. We didn’t do much, just ate at Pizza Hut. Then slept until the next morning.

The next day we drove to Loch Lomond and we took some pictures of the lake there. This place is very special to my dad, back in the 80′s when my dad was still a post-graduate student he used to go there a lot with my mom to picnic and it was cool going back to the same places and re-living the good old days again. On that same day, we ate at The Bay Tree cafe and I think it was a Turkish restaurant because of the music playing, but their food was pretty good. Then later on we did a little bit of shopping at Braehead mall, it was so much crowded and stuffy that you’d feel the floors vibrating underneath you but it’s huge comparing to shopping centres in Aberdeen.

The third day we checked out of the hotel and we went to the Safari Park or Zoo. It was fun to drive thru the Zoo in the car, passing some endangered species, lions and tigers. We even rolled down our windows to have a better look at the lions, it was risky but everyone else was doing it. My dad parked the car, we walked around and we had a chance to pet some animals too. Hassan was enjoying his time there. Meemo tried feeding the ducks some toast and they actually surrounded her from every corner. She was running away and they chased after her. It was terrifying! One duck even stood in front of the car behind us and it wouldn’t shoo away lol.
