Election Day

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

I’m still unsure who I want to vote for this year. I don’t want to vote for someone who smokes, that’s for sure.

Note: I’m on the first district.

Day 4: worst tantrum ever

Friday, May 16th, 2008

From the start of this day he hasn’t stopped asking about it up until I put him to bed, and that’s when he got one of his worst tantrums ever. I don’t think I have the patience anymore! My main concern for today is that he’s not napping enough now that I took away his pacifier, hope this is all temporary.

P.s. since yesterday he’s been exposed to chicken pox virus so I’ll expect him to get it after 14-20 days from now, wish me luck.

Day 3: same as day 2

Thursday, May 15th, 2008

He asked about his pacifier just before he went to bed. He watched a little bit of Barney and he slept. At around 2am he woke up, crying, kicking me in the back and pulling at my hair. Dad turned on Barney and minutes later he slept. He didn’t wake up again. Today morning he got up, was very playful. I gave him a bath and he started to ask about it. I kept telling him he was a big boy. He was so angry. My number one concern is I don’t want him getting used to sleeping with the tv on. I don’t know of any other ways to sooth him?

Update: He asked about it all day long up until he slept. Today it was easier for me because he fell asleep in the car on our way back home from my sister in law’s place. I think he has come to terms with the fact that even if he cries I’m not going to give him his pacifier.

Update: I’m so glad he didn’t wake up. It was a bit relaxing that I slept in late.

Day 2: aftermath

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

Going cold turkey might not be the best thing to do but I don’t think there was any other way. Early in the morning, I would say 4 am he wakes up and screams for his pacifier. I ignored and ignored. He started crying, kicking and punching rami in the chest, remember he still shares the bed with us, I just moved myself away a little so I won’t get kicked in the face. At some point he pulled my hair, I don’t remember what happened after that, I think I pushed him away. He was crying. I don’t know how long it took him to fall back to asleep again. I heard him say “naughty Barney!” Shakoo? That was the worst of it I guess. He didn’t wake up again until 8am, which is still so early for a kid who was up till 11:30pm, and didn’t have any day naps whatsoever. (Lala he did have a short nap, just remembered that). As soon as he was up, he was playing around. I had to get up too. He didn’t ask about it, not yet at least. Agdar agool mabrook ilheen? Can it get any worse?

Day 1: no more pacifiers

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

Rami decided to punish Hassan for being naughty by putting lemon juice on all his pacifiers. I took this as a chance to wean him off. It worked! He slept without it. He started crying for it from 10pm until he fell asleep at 11:30pm. Not bad at all, I expected it would take him much longer than that. It’s the first time he sleeps without it. He was so heartbroken, everytime he asked for it I’d get him another one that’s been dipped in lemon juice, and I would tell him I washed it but it won’t go away. In the end I told him I had to throw them all out because they were no good. What better time to wean him off lol. Wish me good luck tomorrow, this is easier than I thought. I hope I don’t give in. I need to keep him busy as much as possible and I’ll probably need to buy him a new toy just to make him forget about it. I wonder if he’s going to wake up looking for it?

Papa Saad just passed away Allah yerhoma.

I enjoyed it

I’m back home. I went to the aquarium with Hassan. He was so scared at first because it was so dark and creepy inside esp. with that spooky music playing in the background like one of those spooky rides. But we did go in again to see the fish. I had to pay the first time only and Hassan got in for free, no charges for kids under 3yrs which is cool. This was my first time going in there alone, usually Rami comes along or someone else so I was a bit scared but didn’t show Hassan I was. I kept thinking the sharks will get annoyed and would break the glass tanks if those teenage girls don’t stop tapping their fingers on the glass. They’re not even allowed to do that. I noticed they had removed some animals. The Zubedi fish was not there, I’m guessing they were set free or taken to the vet lol, and that’s so unlikey. I think they died. I didn’t like how one of the wild cats was moving back and forth. Something was so wrong with it, don’t know what though. Afterwards we walked outside next to the Boom. The weather was not bad at all. Pigeons were coming close to us, waiting for us to feed them. Didn’t have any bread crumbs on me. There was so many of them. Everyone was feeding them corn puffs lol. Not a healthy choice. They raced to the corn puffs and gobbled at them as quick as they can, most of them were so fat to even move. One particular pigeon grabbed my attention because it’s colour was orange-brown and white. Never seen a pigeon like that before. We ate our ice creams as we watched people feeding the pigeons. Hassan got so excited. A lot of kids were there from different schools. I didn’t expect to see anyone on a school day. I ended the day with a good slice of pizza from pizza hut. On our way out I had to pass through the gift shop because there was no other exit so I bought him some toy turtles from there. On my way back home he slept in the car. It was a good day
