If it weren’t for you
I remember an incident back in the day when I just started driving my very first car, I was probably 18 back then. I was out with Meemo, who was only 13 at that time, and a couple of her friends. I was driving on Gulf road because it was the only road I knew well and I didn’t want to get lost on a different road. I noticed as soon as I got on Gulf street that there was a car following quite closely, didn’t think much of it until the guy started waving his arms frantically and continued flashing on and off. That’s when I felt so pissed at how rude he was and I kept ignoring him. I thought to myself at least respect the kids who were riding with me! One of the girls had her window down and somehow she managed to hear him say ‘flat tire.’ I didn’t know whether to believe him or not. I didn’t have any choice, my instincts told me to park my car and see for myself. I was so scared because I didn’t want to get in trouble either. The guy parked behind my car and I saw him approaching my car. He was so slim, wore very thick specs, looked very geeky and pretty much harmless. I didn’t know what to do, so I lowered my window just in case he was a pervert. He pointed at the tire. He said that he’s been trying to tell me but I wouldn’t give him a chance. I laughed at myself. I honestly thought he was hitting on me. Got out of my car, checked the flat tire myself and surprisingly he was telling me the truth. I apologized and then asked him what I should do now that I’ve got myself a flat? I told him, “you don’t expect me to change that tire?” He looked at his wrist watch and the kids in the back of my car then agreed to change the tire for me. I’m not sure he wanted to but he probably felt sorry for us. It took him an hour to change my flat tire but I didn’t mind as long as I got back home early. I laughed as I saw him get frustrated as he struggled with it. When he was done, he looked drained out. I thanked him very much and gave him a bottle of mineral water to wash his hands, which were all covered with dirt. I took off immediately after that. I checked my rear view mirror and I still saw him following us but that was just until I reached one of my destinations. He probably did that because he wanted to make sure that we got back home safe and sound.
I’m sorry we made fun of you, if it weren’t for you I don’t know what could’ve happened to us that day. Thanks again.
