Change of Scenery

I wasn’t so sure when I first saw this but my friends confirmed it for me. Some ladies have stopped exercising on trails anymore which are intended originally for walking and jogging (mamsha) and started heading to malls instead, like Mohallab. If you’re on the last floor and if you stick around long enough you’ll notice that you’ll see the same lady marching about in circles with her ipod on. It seems ladies favour malls over trails now just to avoid the heat, I don’t blame them but I’d still rather see them back on trails or on treadmills at the gym or home. I sometimes walk around in malls for the sake of moving my limbs but not in that obvious manner, plus it just doesn’t look good at malls.

Yes this has been going on for a while now. Lately I’ve noticed women walking in Avenues as a form of excercise and a couple of men.

the thing is everyone likes walking in malls and feel like they aren’t just doing excercise. Personally I prefer a full gym to shopping mall, but first I have to get my act together and go to a gym again!

I personally leave my nice going out shoes in the car and put on my nice going walking shoes as soon as park in avenues, my husband my child and I enjoy the long walk indoors together and have fun together while moving our bodies, and although I coach 5 yoga classes per week and my husband is also exercises daily, we believe in the importance of walking, walking on a treadmill just doesn’t do it for many people, plus it puts lots of pressure on the ankles and for somepeople its even unhealthy! during my training in the UK that qualifies me to work as a personal training I have learned to advice my clients to walk outside the gym, the use of muscles is very different is very different it’s a totally different experience, walking on the sand at the beach is my favorite laaken ….
Older women can benefit from this fast walks before friends gettogethers, couples can use this time for “talking” , children can enjoy their parents company, younger children enjoy sleeping in the moving trolley in fact they enjoy a very very healthy deep sleep, it is a fact that children enjoy motion. I think you agree with me that there aren’t enough hours in the day for real real bonding between couples or parents and children, life keeps everyone busy. Personally I don’t get enough of my loved ones even if I spend all day with them! And I never run out of things to say !
I saw a mother in her 50s with her teenage daughter walking fast and laughing and telling each other what seems to be jokes, they looked GOOD! It’s a pretty picture to look at.
I know that men who work in Kuwait city use el muthanna for morning walks, my fathers office is right behind it and when I joined him once for his morning walks I saw him greeting many many other men doing their daily healthy routine. I thought it was great!
So muthanna in Kuwait city, muhallab in 7awali, avenues , soog sharg for doctors in el amiri, 3afya 3laihum! Finally good healthy habits in the Kuwaiti life style! And just when I thought drinking coffee and eating sweets is the only thing we are capable of doing for fun as a nation! Hehehe just kidding ;)
Walking on a treadmill bores many people and I don’t blame them at all, Walking outside is out of the question, especially if the only convenient time for u is during the day time, personally I prefer “sleeping” at night. If you have children walking outside even at night is not practical, a small child 1 2 3 4 5 6 years old can enjoy the 3arabana ride, an older child can spend this time talking to his parents about life, his dreams his plans! My dhari walks , goes into shops to follow other kids! Go to say hi to people, jumps and skips and dances and then comes back to his push chair to enjooyyy the riiiddddeeee! I always bring healthy homemade snacks for him to enjoy while we walk, sometimes he falls asleep to wake up a while later full of energy to start running again and making people smile with his funnies!
Actually we have met the coolest couple a while ago when we were “walking” in a mall, and found dhari playdates twice! Walking in malls is not just a Kuwaiti thing, forginers and arabs are following the trend too!
Once we planned to get together with some friends in avenues so we went an hour earlier so we can walk for an hour before they all arrive, to our surprise we found a couple of them walking in the first floor and they also came an hour earlier so they can walk before we all get together for a nice meal!!
Going to the gym is not convenient for mothers for example, In todays Kuwait mothers are not breastfeeding, not cooking healthy food for their families, not spending enough time with their children because they go to work when they children are not even 2 years old, so mall time can save whats left from the mother child relationship, and instead of indulging in unhealthy sugary foods they can walk together and then go have a nice healthy dish.
in europe where most mothers cant afford treadmills and other gym equipment or do not have the space at home, mothers walk with their children , and then go hit the gym for a max of 30 mins to use the machines and weights while their children stay in the care of a trusted one. Walking indoors is equivalent to that in Kuwait, the air is fresh enough the hallways are wide enough.
I think you agree with me that walking shoes looks much much better than high heels in a big place like that, the feet are the map of ur body and keeping them happy is essential for overall health and a stress free pain free state.
I think it looks really really good/healthy/modern/civilized/pretty for someone to walk at the mall, it looks much better than a mother with a maid carrying her child, or a smoking father, or a mother with a baby with a bottle or a pacifier in his mouth, or a mother feeding her child donuts..it looks better than maids dressed in humiliating slave like uniforms hold the kids hands and carrying all the shopping bags, it looks better than overdressing for malls! Too much make up, saloon-perfect hair dos! 7jab with “something” inside she can hardly move her head to see or carry her poor neglected child.
    I hope I painted a clear picture, I think u agree with me :)

iif it is all about walking and exercise, then why they do not walk in supermarkets and buy groceries and help their families or those people who need help…

  8. Pearls Says:

Ony, I love walking but not ‘marching’ around in malls, it just looks funny. Malls are not meant for that.
