Maid Hunting

I haven’t had any luck yet in finding a housemaid. Yesterday I checked out offices in Hawalli, I was so disgusted. It was a basement filled up with so many recruiting offices, there were so many young ladies sitting on the floors, some looked so sad, some stared at us, and others just looked ill. What a somber place!

On many forms I flipped through there were pictures of housemaids posing in their employer’s home, bedroom or living room, sometimes holding the employer’s baby?? I was left in dismay for the rest of the day. I couldn’t believe what I saw.

I didn’t know until today that many agencies can send a representative to your home or working place with the forms. There’s still hope and it’s final I’m never going there again!

It’s sad :( The world can be such a dark place..

Its sad the conditions they are in and the government doesnt know how to regulate things. Its sad they dont know how to make a workable solution, if you tell them the problem they ban all maids thinking that it is a good solution. Never really thinking about something through, but this is how our government operates.. I feel bad for these women, but you do get afraid of them really. What we did for my brothers place is install cameras and they know they are there and they know we watch them even if people are working.

Marzouq, I’ve always wanted to do that.

Be sure to check their pictures to the passport copies (usually attached to the “biodata”). You’ll find that many times the pictures don’t even match. Many times they lie on their biodatas: age, marital status, etc.

My friends and I refer to that place in Hawally as “The Slave Trade”.
