Under the Weather
My baby had 6 very loose and watery bowel movements yesterday so I had to take him to the Doctor and she told us he probably has a viral infection. She prescribed him an anti-diarrhea medication which I chose not to give to him just yet so as to let his body fight the infection, but I did give him the other fluid thingie she prescribed and she also recommended I buy a lactose free formula for now. He didn’t like either of them so I decided to dilute his formula only. Â

Sheikha, regular milk does not contain the nutrients needed for a one year old. It could also do some harm to the child if it is the only milk he is drinking. This does not mean that a child of one should not drink regular milk completely, but that it shouldn’t be provided instead of the formula he usually takes. There are formulas that have been especially prepared for children of different age groups because each age group needs special nutrients to help grow and stay healthy. Regular milk may not contain the amount of calcium, iron and other vitamins and minerals those other formulas have and the amount that the child needs at that age. I’m a mother of four and know that children can be picky eaters, thus regular milk may not have enough nutrients to keep them healthy. I’m completely with using formula as much as possible because I’ve seen the difference in children that drank regular milk and those on formula. In the end, it depends on the mother and and what she thinks is best for her child.

I agree with Rena. Shaikha I’m fully aware that by one year I should be giving regular milk and I have been doing so 3 times a week at least or whenever I can, I’d give him banana milk or cornflakes with milk, etc.
The thing is my baby doesn’t like it as much as formula. He’d spit it out most of the time. It’s a gradual process and no one recommends I replace formula with normal cow’s milk esp. in the bottle because it’s not as nutritious.
