Color Me Mine
I’m so relieved that while I was walking I didn’t have to worry about my skirt blowing upwards like Marilyn Monroe’s in one of her famous movies lol. I’m just so glad that it’s not so windy today. Before I continue talking about Color Me Mine, I need to get something off my chest first, some terrible news.
Yesterday I got a fright when I was told that my sweet baby fell off my sister’s bed and hit his head hard onto the ceramic floors. You see I decided to leave my baby with my younger sister as I was getting changed, it took me only a minute when I got back I found out what had happened. This was the first time. So I was so scared and I started to panic.
I checked on his head immediately, I found he had some redness on his forehead and a little bump. Other than that he looked fine to me but he was in so much pain. He wouldn’t let go of me.
I started to scream at my sister for being so irresponsible, even if she was with him in the same room, she shouldn’t have left him on her bed. Then I cried a little. My sister was shaking badly too but she actually didn’t just watch him fall off the bed, she hurt her finger while she was trying to rescue my baby from falling. At least she tried to do something about it. I had to put an ice-pack on his forehead, I managed to keep it for a couple of minutes only because he wouldn’t let me. I think I’m ready to forgive my sister now.
Now back to Color Me Mine located at Marina Crescent. Last week I went there and I took my baby with me. I wanted to do one special birthday plate for my baby. I choose my plate from the shelves and there was a huge sign with ‘Don’t Touch.’ I thought to myself kids don’t understand such signs. It would have been better if they had their stuff put at a higher shelf, unreachable to them or better still have them locked up in one glass cabinet. It bothered me to see that they actually charged parents if a kid of theirs took an item off the shelf without them even knowing about it. I’m an adult and I couldn’t resist touching! They have workers there and they should check that things like that don’t just happen.
Anyways, good thing Hassan’s still a baby otherwise I would have paid a fortune. I paid 3.800 Kd for one plate and that’s so expensive for one pottery plate, plus painting charges which totaled up to 6.950 Kd. Adults pay around 3.150 kd’s for painting charges and kids pay one kd less. I thought that was very expensive too for a little paint and glazing before popping it in the oven for us.
I suck at painting so my older sister helped me with the plate. I have to admit that the staff were extra friendly and even one guy offered to help me finish my plate. I also had my baby’s footprint on the plate. It was fun putting paint on his foot. One of the workers there helped me. I laughed so hard as I watched the guy take his foot in one hand and press it onto the middle of the plate. I wrote on the back: “Mama loves you.” Once we were done, they told us to come back in a week time to pick up the plate.
I got a friendly call two days ago from them saying that it was ready. I know I might sound silly but I want to go there again because the staff were so so friendly. So yesterday I picked up Hassan’s plate and it looks very cool for a birthday plate.
That was a very long post lol.

The finished b-day plate.

About Babies falling, not to worry LOL! Hehehe many have fell and survived.
True Story: My little sister was dropped, one night mother was really tired and therefore she gave my (2nd sister) to my father (the one right after me that is, that’s the sister I’m talking about) and she went to bed, Daddy stayed up with her and all and then she fell asleep. Instead of Father placing her in the crib, he gave her to sleepy mom to place her in the crib, and what happened? She was dropped onto the floor hehehe. It is funny now that you think about it. But she turned out fine.
True Story, Hassan my little cousin has been hurt countless times and by his own actions rather than by anyone dropping him and such, he was in a leg cast when he was 2 years old! And he’s kind of a hyper boy so there’s nothing wrong with him now.
Moral of those two stories is that don’t worry about it. Because kids will always be kids
P.S. Plate looks cool, you’ve got talent

Salamat ya 7ayati!! It was normal to blame you’re sister at the time- only because you were so worried about Hassoon. But it wasn’t really her fault. If you were the one looking after him, he probably would have fallen at the same time. Did you tell her that you forgive her? I know that she probably feels bad about the whole thing. Babies always fall, and as my dad always says, “Yukbar oo yinsa!” Wait until he starts walking and running…you’ll need those ice packs!
The plate looks great! Next year make his hand print.

I know I’ve overreacted. I was so scared. But I apologised to my sister for everything I said.
Thanks everyone, but I don’t have any artistic talents because my sister did most of the work, so all credit goes to her.

Salaaamat Hassan!!!! I hope he is ok! I know how you feel, i never leave my nephew for a second. Because he still doesnt have a concept of height he just keeps going where he goes until he loses traction!
And I enjoy color me mine! Its pretty damn fun! the prices for that place is pretty relative to the prices in the states. And the friendly staff are key to keep people coming back!

[...] Another thing I’ve noticed is that my baby started to climb down the stairs or bed by turning around, going feet first instead of head first, I guess he learned his lesson after falling off the bed. I haven’t taught him any baby signs yet but he’s doing a lot of pointing he taught himself that especially when he wants something and he shakes his head from side to side when he’s in denial. I think he made a new sound last week, he said ’nada.’ As I was feeding him breakfast today I looked at his gums and I saw that his lower side teeth are coming out. Oh no! I’ll be expecting more biting from now on. And yesterday I felt I wanted to scream when I had to change the sheets because baby Hassan wet the bed but I had to wash him up first and he was so sleepy. He didn’t cooperate, but it’s not his fault … [...]

[...] On Friday, my sister said she’ll pass by with a homemade birthday cake. I was truly surprised when I saw her cake, it was shaped number one and it looked like a bird too. It was coated with chocolate and green sugary candies, it spelled “Hassan” in Arabic. It was so perfect. I wouldn’t have thought of that myself and I fed him cake but I forgot to use his birthday plate again. It was not meant to be. It was not planned very well but we had so much fun. [...]
