3 more to go
I had lunch with my husband before my appointment with the dentist (which is a wise move) to have presumably two of my wisdom teeth pulled out, though I ended up having only one removed because I changed my mind the last minute. I won’t be eating anything but jello until tomorrow. I can’t speak very well now. So far no pain just lots of bleeding!
I was so scared and as soon as I got in the room I was trembling badly. After the doctor had injected a local analgesic with a very fine and long needle into my lower right gums, scary, then all of a sudden he leaves me alone with the nurse just for a while so that the analgesic can take effect. My heart started pounding faster and faster. It’s just like waiting for my death penalty! I was shooting so many questions to the nurse and it’s good she was still so patient with me until my doctor came back 10 minutes later.
I was relieved to see him come back. At that time I wanted to leave but I didn’t want to act like a baby in front of everyone and I wanted to get this over with. When the doctor started with the procedure, at first everything went on very smoothly until the constant pulling and pulling from every possible angle. I shut my eyes tightly and tried to think of my baby only but still nothing seemed to work. I started sweating so much. I thought I can’t go through this twice even if it’s painless. It’s just so annoying having someone pull on something and it won’t come out. But I had to relax a bit because the doctor felt how tense I was becoming, which didn’t help at all.
It took 30 minutes to get one removed and when the doctor was about to start with the stitches I felt a bit of pain maybe because the analgesic was wearing off or something so he had to inject another needle. I was prescribed with loads of medication: two different antibiotics, one anti-inflammatory, and some painkillers. I have to change the gauze dressing every two hours. I shouldn’t rinse my mouth with salt and water until tomorrow. I need to use an ice-pack every half an hour at least just for today. Mom and my husband are being very supportive too because I need to rest for now. Lots and lots of intructions!
The instruments in the picture below reminds me so much of Freddy Krueger.

Here’s another snap shot of the clinic I went to.

P.s. I’d like to add that my doctor is really really good.

7ayati intay, matshoofeen shar. Inshalla rabbee yesahal 3laych and things won’t be too bad after the analgesic wears off. And if it does get painful, just think that it couldn’t be worse than a c-section!

Allah Yesalmich, I haven’t felt a thing yet and if I do I’ll quickly take some other painkillers that should last upto 24 hours.

Hey!
Hope you’re feeling better. If they pulled it without putting you to sleep, it must not have been too bad. They pulled two of mine last year at tha Amiri, but I had to sleep there two nights, and it was full surgery, although it wasn’t too bad afterwards.
It will heal up really fast, don’t worry.

Q8sultana, I’m doing fine right now. I asked my doctor that I’d like to stay awake during the procedure. It’s a bit scary but it’s so painless. What’s really bothering right now is my right jaw, it’s huge!
D, thanks. I did mine with Dr. Khalid (Sharq branch). You’ll find their number in the picture. Btw, he’s good but he tends to forget sometimes so I keep reminding him.

Salamat! Hope you feel better!
Look at the bright side, the worst is over. And, I was planning to get mine taken out this summer, that post just made me push the date a bit further away

I look like I’m pregnant again. Btw, KtheKuwaiti I strongly recommend you get them done two at the time because you’d be on antibiotics every time you get one pulled out.

I just knew of this!! Salamat though late! Hope yer better now. Get this, I felt a bump once fe my gum and my ear was infected and hurtin’ so bad; I went to Dar AlShifa ( Rip offs! ), and they dentist suspected that this was cuz of the Wisdom teeth – he took and X-Ray and he said “Ma3andech wala wa7ed!, they aren’t even inside the gum!” Akeid I was happy, because I have seen the excruciating pain my sister went through after surgery, at the same time my mom looks at me smiling and says: “Menshan heik mokhkhek 6a2e2!” in other words = NUTS! Duh!
Elmohem, salamat….

[...] P.s.s. I just remembered that I noticed food accumulating in a little opening in the gum where my first wisdom tooth was pulled out and that was after the stitches were removed. I asked my doctor about it, he said it was normal and it would gradually heal up. Btw, my top gums are not swollen at all and I’m not even taking any painkillers now. [...]

I know this post is over a year and a half old .. but I just had two pulled out a few days ago and remembered I read something here (and commented too!).
March 26th, 2008 at 8:43 pm
K, I still have two more but I still can’t get myself to go. Are your gums swelling like a baseball, yallah salamat matshoof shar
March 27th, 2008 at 8:57 am
Shar mayeech .. The swelling on the right side came down yesterday, the left side needs a couple more days (it was a harder tooth). I looked like Don Corleone for the first two days.
